One of my favourite quotes is: “You should know a little about everything“.
And one of the easiest ways to do this nowadays is to have a good list of RSS feeds in your favourite reader like Feedly and just read through the headlines everyday. That’s how I keep a check on the HR pulse. If something catches my interest, then I go ahead and read the entire article but there are people working on crafting the perfect headlines and I use their skills! I’ve compiled a list of some of the HR blogs that I think everyone doesn’t know about but really should. They’re all awesome so add them to your reading list!
Evil HR Lady
Probably one of the longest standing blogs on HR, this is the one that most of us have heard of. There’s an option to ask her a question directly if you’ve got a problem that no one seems to be answering. There’s not much fluff in this blog which is great when you’re trying to save time and just see what’s going on in the HR world. From telecommuniting to horrible bosses she really does cover it all.
HR Zone
They really are a great HR Zone with a complete list of HR events, a sister L&D site, information on all the crucial categories such as strategy, people, leadership, recruitment, technology and more. They have such a great collection of posts that I got distracted by reading their stuff while writing this one. Make sure to go through their library too…really great stuff in their to read as well.
Chief Happiness Officer
Though most of us HR professionals are resigned to the fact that we’re the most unliked lot in the entire organization we all secretly wish we could get the title of CHO – Chief Happiness Officer. Afterall, we’re always in the struggle to find the zen between employee needs and organization requirements. This blog, is striving to provide information on how to become the perfect balancing act with a very definitive outlook to a happy work day.
HR Daily Advisor
Most of us read some form of news every morning to know what’s going on in the world. This is the equivalent of that for the HR world. They have great presentations and articles to go through – very season relevant so that’s always important. They focus on training, legal/politics, compensation, safety and the environment.
Lance Haune (Formerly known as Your HR Guy)
From the HR guy to someone who aims to better understand how businesses and people fit together Lance Haune has transcended in the world of HR. Another blog with no fluff and strict focus on content this is one that you should add after touching base on the basic HR functions. It’s completely food for thought and will help you step back from day to day HR thoughts and take a look at the bigger picture.
That’s 5 to get you started and I’d love for you to share any others which you think should be on this list. Reading really is one of the best ways to expand your knowledge base. Subscribe to the blog to receive exclusive insights into the world of HR, personal growth and more.
