[Tweet “Stop brain drain in Asia by creating a world class environment at organization level.”]

The battle of fighting brain drain in Asia rages on and we’re all trying to find a plug that fits the drain in our industries. It’s no easy challenge to conquer because there are just so many factors out of our control such as improving standard of living, providing modern educational facilities and political and infrastructure stability. But there are a number of actions that you can take to fight brain drain at the company level. And of course, marketed appropriately through employer branding, these can create a core strength for the company and subsequently the country (if enough of us follow through with making the effort.)

Providing Cross Border Knowledge Transfer

One of the main reasons why moving abroad is so tempting for Asians is the international exposure they receive. This can come in the form of coworkers with different backgrounds, networking sessions and training opportunities. If you’re able to provide at least the last two (since getting people to come from abroad is a whole other discussion), then you’re giving them the benefits of a more developed work environments without the discomfort or cost of leaving their home.

Provide World Class Benefits

Even though most of know that there are very few companies who provide benefits like Google or management structures like Zappos, the grass is always greener on the other side. Most people in Asia who have had very little exposure with the West are not entirely aware of what the real world situation is like. So if you’re able to provide world class benefits that go beyond what the norm is for companies in your country, you’re going to have a major advantage at picking top talent. Think along the lines of health benefits for the entire family, education support for children and discount cards at top retailers. Anything that would make day to day lives of your employees a little better.

Don’t Underestimate what Your Organization has to Offer

People will never view your organization with pride if you don’t first give yourself credit. Everyone senses negative energy and this is especially true for corporations. If you believe you’re world class, you will be perceived as such. Help people develop an incredible opinion of your company by doing Employer Branding right, working on communicating with your employees and making coming to the office worthwhile for the people (other than their regular salary). After all, why would someone leave if they’re getting everything they’re looking for in their home country?

I started off with saying that slowing down the brain drain in Asia in no easy task. But, that said, these are some of the ways that companies can take matters into their own hand. You really have to stay educated about what the workforce is looking for because we all know that the tides are turning. Power is in the hands of the right talent and we have to make them feel valued for them to contribute whole heartedly to the goal of the business.

  1. one of the factors of brain drain from Asia is due to the political unrest, poverty and lack of infrastructure prevailing in most of the Asian countries leading to very less opportunities available in these countries for the talented youth. The developing countries are fifty years behind developed countries and to bridge this gap you need transformation from grass root level.
